= !PhotoTimeline = Simile Timeline is a FOSS AJAX/HTML/Javascript-Component, that implements a graphical timeline in the web browser. It allows to load XML/JSON-Data as "Event Sources", this data is then displayed in the timeline. Quoting the docs: Timeline allows web site creators to embed interactive timelines into their sites. It requires only that visitors have Javascript enabled. It's often referred to as "Google Maps" for time. == Possible Applications == I see a strong potential in the timeline as UI component: * Explore your photos in a time-based manner and in correlation with calendar information (e.g. your holiday schedule as iCal + the pictures your took in one timeline) * If you have photos from multiple photographers from the same event, the timeline can be useful as an overview tool (who took pictures at which period of the event?) * A visual aid to correct EXIF timestamp offsets (you enter an offset and see how the thumbnails change their location) == References == - [http://code.google.com/p/simile-widgets/wiki/Timeline Project Home] - [http://code.google.com/p/simile-widgets/wiki/Timeline_In_the_Wild Timeline Examples] - [http://picurl.org/frontend/picurl-timeline/ Prototype of a picurl timeline] - [http://people.csail.mit.edu/dfhuynh/misc/compact-painter/index3.html Compact Painter Example (optimised for Thumbnails)]
